Book Blog, Week 6
The song Demons by Imagine Dragons seems to really fit the life of one of the characters in the story. Murtagh, not until recently, has hidden his past from Eragon. Only when he practically had no choice that he told his traveling companion his story. They had traveled together for so long that they were practically best friends. Murtagh and Eragon, tired from running and hiding from all the danger, were stressed and with little time to prevent another death from occurring. They traveled to the Varden, which Murtagh refused to follow. He would accompany Eragon until he got there, but once at the door he wanted to split. Murtagh was convinced that the Varden would never trust him, due to the fact he was the son of Morzan, the first and last Forsworn (the Forsworn were a group of Dragon Riders that turned bad, and ended up working under the king's evil rule). However, things didn't work out the way he had hoped.
This song in particular seems to fit Murtagh's personality, and life story in general. The lyrics all seem to fit him so well. The song, in my opinion, is about overcoming your fears and conquering your demons. The line "They say it's what you make, I say it's up to fate. It's woven in my soul. I need to let you go" seemed to fit him the best out of all the lyrics in the song. While still hesitant to let anyone into his mind, Murtagh starts to embrace that he is the only son of any of the Forsworn, and seems to accept the fact that this was his past, not who he is now.
